Rescue Records Return a Lost Primate to the Scientific Record

Metin

The Bangka slow loris, a small venomous primate from Indonesia’s Bangka Island, had not appeared in scientific publications since the 1930s, and the IUCN Red List classes it as critically endangered and possibly extinct. A study in Spixiana now shows that the animal has persisted, unnoticed by researchers, although local people kept finding it in gardens, beside roads and on power lines. The evidence comes from the Alobi Wildlife Rescue Center, which took in more than 90 of these lorises between 2015 and 2025 after residents or local officials reported them. Rescues were recorded in each of the island’s four regencies and also in Pangkal Pinang, so the species could still be widespread. Of these, 86 recovered and went back to seven forest sites. Still, Alobi’s director warns that illegal tin mining and oil palm clearing leave it very close to extinction, while the authors, citing threats from roads and power lines, urge surveys, genetic studies and habitat protection.

YDS mini sorusu

  2. a rescue centre had kept records of animals reported by residents
  3. scientists had described it in a series of papers since the 1930s
  4. genetic tests placed it in each of the four regencies of the island

Cevabı ve açıklamasını göster

Doğru cevap: B

Metne göre türün yaşadığına dair kanıt, yerel halkın ve yetkililerin bildirdiği 90’dan fazla lorisi 2015–2025 arasında kurtaran Alobi Yaban Hayatı Kurtarma Merkezi’nin kayıtlarından gelmektedir. Nüfus taramaları ve genetik çalışmalar yapılmış değil, ileride yapılması önerilen adımlardır; tür 1930’lardan beri bilimsel yayınlarda hiç görünmemiştir; hayvanları yedi orman alanına geri bırakan IUCN değil, kurtarma merkezidir. Bu nedenle doğru cevap B’dir.

Proof that the loris has survived rests on the records of a rescue centre that cared for more than 90 animals reported by local people and officials.
