DAVINCI Probe Demonstrates It Can Endure Venusian Heat
DAVINCI probu Venüs sıcağına dayanabileceğini gösterdi
NASA has reported that an engineering model of its DAVINCI descent probe passed a crucial thermal test conducted between late August and early September. To reproduce the conditions expected during the final plunge through Venus’s atmosphere, engineers placed the roughly yoga-ball-sized vessel in a ceramic-lined chamber. They raised the temperature to 465 degrees Celsius over about an hour, matching the rapid heating the probe is expected to experience before reaching the surface. The successful result indicates that the vessel can protect its scientific instruments in one of the most hostile environments explored by spacecraft. DAVINCI is designed to investigate the origin, evolution and present condition of Venus. By examining the planet’s atmosphere in exceptional detail, the mission may help scientists determine whether Earth’s neighbouring planet once had water and conditions suitable for life.
