Hugging is common, yet little is known about why certain embraces stay in the memory. A study led by a University of Bristol researcher, published in PLOS One on 28 October, drew on more than 15,000 UK adults who completed the Touch Test, a large survey of attitudes to touch. About seven in ten participants recalled a hug for the positive emotions it produced. Such memories were especially common among people with higher empathy and greater awareness of their own bodily sensations, whereas those uneasy with emotional closeness reported them less often. Men and women also differed in what made a hug memorable. Lead author Anna Lena Dueren suggests that affectionate contact may become an enduring memory because it communicates comfort and support. The team cautions that three quarters of the sample were women, that results may not apply to cultures with other norms of touch, and that the design cannot show cause and effect.

Doğru cevap: A
Bu nedenle doğru cevap A’dır.
