Metin
Trans-Neptunian objects are small, icy bodies whose orbits lie beyond Neptune. Because they formed far from the Sun and have changed relatively little, their surfaces may retain evidence of the early Solar System. Astronomers have now combined observations from the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes to study these extremely faint objects in greater detail. Webb supplied information about surface composition, while Hubble helped scientists examine the wider population and search for small companions. The combined results included a possible three-body system and fewer small objects than some models had predicted. Neither finding provides a final account of how the distant Solar System developed. However, both place useful limits on theories of collision and formation. The study therefore illustrates why observations made with instruments that have different strengths can be more informative when interpreted together.
